Kids playhouse plans

Crooked playhouse with 23 sq. ft (2,1 m) is among our most popular small house designs. If you would like to build a unique, fun playhouse for your children and not spend too much money on it, it is the right thing for you! The playhouse has a straightforward layout with one room and four walls, slightly sloped towards the outside, so the interior space seems visually bigger. You enter through the door on the front into this cozy little space with one or two windows on each of the walls. It is big enough for your children and their friends to play in but small enough to create a lovely homely feeling. Cross gable roof adds to the feeling of a sweet little house with its attic windows again on all four sides bringing even more light in. Plus, windows, doors and even the roof are all slightly tilted, and that together with bright colors and possible decorations, which you can add, results in a kids’ playhouse your children will love.

Construction PDF plans

The construction is not difficult at all, and with our detailed playhouse plans, almost anyone can do it. You can follow the step by step instructions precisely, or you can adjust the structure as you wish to get the kids playhouse of your dreams; choose colors you prefer, decorate according to your kids’ taste, put a little table with chairs, loads of cushions, or anything else inside, decide whether you wish to install the door and windows or create some cool frames and leave it open, you can even add front porch or loft, have it is outdoor playhouse or keep it inside, simply anything your mind can think of! There are no limits to your and your kids’ imagination, and if you check our references, you will see many examples of what beautiful wooden playhouse you can have. Your children will be happy and their friends too, we promise! If you feel like an elevated outdoor playhouse would be an even better option for you, check out our Lookout playhouse.

16 Free Backyard Playhouse Plans for Kids

Movable Playhouse

When Keith Singer planned and built a playhouse in 1983 as a fifth birthday present for his daughter, Stephanie, he cleverly designed it to be assembled or broken down in sections: floors, walls, ceiling, and porch. Stephanie and her sister enjoyed the playhouse through their teen years—during which they used it to hold sleepovers. When Stephanie grew up and had a daughter of her own, she moved the playhouse with her. So far the house has been moved three times and can be easily transported. It's currently at the home of a family friend in Kansas City, Missouri.

Measuring 8 feet by 8 feet with a 7-foot-high ceiling and 3-foot porch, the house can be customized for the tastes of your child and can be built as a clubhouse, fort, or playhouse. The downloadable booklet for the Moveable Playhouse is 30 pages and includes detailed sketches and step-by-step instructions to guide you through the building process.

5. The Castle Fort

playhouse plans

Do you have a little knight that sits around your kitchen table? Well, if so then why not give him his own castle?

6. The Sleep-N-Play Clubhouse

playhouse plans

This is a really neat playhouse. It is actually an indoor playhouse. But that has its perks too.

And the main one is that this playhouse doubles as both a playhouse and a bed. So if you are thinking you don’t have room outside for a playhouse then you should really give this one a closer look.

Build this playhouse ›

7. The Hideaway

playhouse-hideaway-plans

This hideaway is so cool. They have it dressed in the photo like it is more for a girl. But it could easily be redecorated to suit a boy as well.

Build this playhouse ›

8. The Happy Treehouse

This playhouse is actually a treehouse. It isn’t as extensive as you might think a treehouse to be though. Instead, it has a base that it is built on and a set of steps to enter it.

So if you want a playhouse that is a little different than the traditional style, then check this one out. The design is really cute. And honestly, I want one for myself.

Build this playhouse ›

9. The Triangular Playhouse

ph9

This playhouse is very different. It is a triangle versus the traditional box-style playhouse. And the roof actually doubles as a door. Which is neat because it helps protect everything inside of it from the elements.

But what is so unique is that this playhouse is two stories. So it would be big enough to hold multiple children. But also very unique.

Build this playhouse ›

10. Pallet Playhouse

ph10

Does the idea of having a playhouse sound expensive? Well, then give these plans a thorough glance. Because this playhouse is made from pallets.

Build this playhouse ›

12. The High Top Playhouse

Build this playhouse ›

13. The Dollhouse

Build this playhouse ›

I have a special fondness for this playhouse. I think it’s because my great grandmother had a tiny shed this size in her backyard.

Build this playhouse ›

21. The Wendy House

playhouse plans

I learned something when I saw these playhouse plans. I had never heard of this style of playhouse referred to as a ‘Wendy House.’

But that is the proper name for it. And basically, it is a playhouse that has some feminine characteristics. So if you’d like a more feminine playhouse then this might be a good choice for you.

Build this playhouse ›

22. American Gothic Playhouse Plans

gothic-playhouse

This is a beautiful dollhouse. If you are a fan of the gothic style, then you will probably adore this design. It actually reminds me of an old country church.

So if you are less about a modern design and more about bringing back the older designs then you’ll definitely want to check this one out.

Build this playhouse ›

23. The Wooden Playhouse

ph23

So let’s say you aren’t a pro at building. And you really just need a simple design with simple materials that you can try to take on.

Well, this is a basic wooden playhouse. The design appears easy enough. And with some help, you could probably have a successful build.

Build this playhouse ›

24. Malay Style Playhouse

ph24

I’m not foolish enough to think that everyone who reads this blog lives in the south (like me.) I know a few of you lucky individuals have to be living the island life somewhere.

And with that in mind, I bring you this beautiful island inspired playhouse. It looks as though it would fit perfectly into your Hawaiian dream home. Or even in your backyard with a few plants placed around it.

Build this playhouse ›

25. The Little Yellow Playhouse

ph25

I love this traditional style playhouse. I’ve always had a thing for little yellow houses. There is something about them that I find absolutely adorable and just very welcoming.

So it should be no surprise that I think this playhouse appears very welcoming to kids. It just looks like the perfect place to play an imaginary game of house.

Build this playhouse ›

26. The Play Cottage

ph26

This cottage definitely caught my eye. It looks very simple to build because it is just wood and basic cuts.

But it is the little details that make it so special. I love the wooden picket fence. It just looks like a place that kids could gather and have a great time.

Build this playhouse ›

27. PVC Pipe Fort

ph27

This fort is so neat. You can set it up inside or outside. And you can use any kind of material you want to cover the outside. Which means it can be as unique as you want it.

But what is so awesome is that this fort looks so easy to build. So even if you think there is no way you can build anything, you need to check out this plan.

Build this playhouse ›

28. The Indoor Playhouse

ph28

This design is so cool. And honestly something I probably would have never come up on my own. So kudos to the designers!

But they built a front porch of a dollhouse onto the front of a closet. And then the closet is the actual playhouse. I’m an adult and would love this as an intro to my office! (Just kidding….sort of!)

Build this playhouse ›

29. The Kids’ Fort

ph29

When I saw this it instantly resonated with me as something my boys would love. And that we would probably build for them.

But what I love is how rustic it appears. And it looks like something you could be kind of rough and tumble in (which I assure you my boys would be.)

Build this playhouse ›

30. The Cowboy Constructed Playhouse

ph30

I love the term ‘cowboy constructed’ and that is how the designer said they built this beautiful playhouse. They couldn’t come up with plans.

So they just went to the lumberyard and started building. And then went back and put the playhouse plans on paper after the fact so others could glean from what they’d done. I must say, they did a great job because this is a beautiful playhouse.

Build this playhouse ›

31. The Designer Playhouse

playhouse plans

I’m going to be truthful. I wish I could make my house look this good. This playhouse is beautiful yet rustic.

And all of the beautiful flowers they have staged around it just send it over the top. So if you are looking for a simple design that will be welcoming to your kids then you should check these playhouse plans out.
