Welcome to Bar Harbor Cottages & Suites

Bar Harbor Cottages and Suites in Bar Harbor, Maine has been serving visitors to the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island area for generations.

Our traditional Maine cottage colony is nestled in a peaceful hamlet on a country road across the lane from Salisbury Cove.  Our 12 boutique, charmingly restyled cottages beckon visitors to our park-like setting where you will find attention to details typically found in upscale lodging. The cottages have either a partial water view or garden view and most have screened porches.  To best serve your needs, we have various types of cottages which can accommodate 1 - 6 people.  The cottages, which accommodate 3 or more people, have separate sleeping quarters for added privacy. Unlike bed and breakfast inns, our decorated studio, 1 and 2 bedroom, fully equipped self-catering cottages have screened porches and kitchenettes giving guests the ability to enjoy a relaxing morning before venturing to the Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park area.  We are conveniently located about 3 miles to Acadia National Park, 4.5 miles to the Bar Harbor downtown business district, 1.5 miles to a public access beach, and a 15 - 20 minute drive to the other coastal villages in the area.

Bar Harbor Cottages welcomes our return guests and first time visitors for the 2021 Season!

Acknowledging the continued special circumstances this year we want to be sure you are aware of the important and unique qualities our property has to offer. The very nature of our individual boutique cottages lends themselves to the concept of self-isolating while simultaneously getting away and enjoying the vast array of open areas and breathtaking views Mt. Desert Island has to offer.

We are located a few miles outside of the downtown area in the serene and secluded neighborhood of Salsbury Cove so you are able to avoid the crowds. Our location near Acadia National Park gives convenient access to its miles and miles of wooded trails and carriage roads to enjoy hiking and biking, its rugged shoreline and beaches and scenic drives throughout.

Cleanliness and sanitizing is assured and always a point of pride. We always have held the highest standards in our cleaning procedures and rest assured the regular cleaning and disinfecting is first in our minds this and every season. As usual our check-in procedure doesn’t involve the need for face to face interaction with our virtual check-in and check-out. You will enjoy any amenities and assistance when needed and seclusion when desired. Upon arrival all guests will find their cottage open and their key on the table. A map and an abundance of local information about restaurants and attractions can obtained in the guest reception office at the back of the farm house.

While we are on the property, we are also available via email and phone. So, while we enjoy the personal interaction with our wonderful guests, it is not at all necessary. Your Cottage is your own while you are here with plenty of outdoor space and privacy. All Cottages are equipped with a dining table, kitchenette and private picnic table. Prepare your own meals or enjoy any of the many wonderful local restaurants nearby, dining in or taking out.

We look forward to seeing you this year! Please call us if you have any questions.Cottage 11

This place was perfect! The studio was very clean and cozy, it was close to Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor, the grounds were beautiful with a small patio and a fire pit (which we wanted to utilize but we were so tired from adventuring) and as a bonus they allow pets! we will definitely be back!
-Nicole, 2 night Trip

Loved the individual units- well-equipped kitchen, nice space. Only issue was a noisy refrigerator. Time to replace that one... staff was friendly and welcoming. Personalized note and receipt left in the unit for arrival. Very nice location. Outside propane fireplace was on as we arrived. BBQ grill available for our use. Exceptional for the price!!

Located in Bar Harbor, Edgewater Motel and Cottages is an All Waterfront property with many treasures. Only 2.5 miles from the entrance to Acadia National Park and just enough outside downtown Bar Harbor, allows easy accessibility to all points on Mount Desert Island. Our waterfront cottages, motel, and suites are all beautifully positioned on our private pebble beach nestled on a cove, offering much quiet and serenity after a long day of activity. Each of the selected accommodations are upscale-casual, warm, and inviting.

Edgewater owners and operators, the Bowdens, settled this coastal gem more than two centuries ago. David and his wife, Jayne are the third generation to run the business his grandmother opened in the late 1930s. Much has changed since then, but some things will always remain the same~ Sea glass hiding under water-logged driftwood, baby crabs scuttling out from underneath one rock to another, schools of young fish weaving in and out of aquatic plants, water fowl drifting with the current, and lobstermen adding to their catch by hauling yet another trap. Come and experience natures ever-changing bounty in the comfort of your private accommodations.

Escape, Relax.... treat yourself to a piece of coastal heaven. Imagine... Falling asleep to the cool Atlantic breeze and waking to the smell of the clean salt air. We welcome the opportunity to share our unspoiled coastal delight with you as we provide peaceful and relaxing accommodations. We are confident you will find the comfort, atmosphere, and the coastal living experience you're seeking here at the Edgewater and that it will soon become one of your favorite vacation attractions in itself when visiting Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island

We invite you to browse through the rest of our site to find out more about our unique establishment.
