Realy funny memes

Realy funny memes DEFAULT

Over the past decade or so, memes have become a deep-rooted element of the digital world, particularly on social media. But you’ll be surprised to learn that it was a term coined by biologist Richard Dawkins back in 1976.

It was meant to describe cultural trends that become rapidly popular. Going by his definition the idea of democracy would be classified as a meme. Today, humorous images, videos, or any textual content are what pass for memes. Typically, they’re copied content (with minor variations) that have spread on the internet like wildfire.

But what’s this got to do with marketing? A lot.

Memes are probably the most viral form of content there is. You can create a buzz about your brand by being the subject of one of these memes. You can even leverage influencers, adept at the art of meme-making to create an ad for you.

Look no further, Gucci’s launch for their Le Marché des Merveilles collection of watches. They partnered with meme makers like Jessica (@beigecardigan) and John (@cabbagecatmemes) to create memes to promote their new collection. And they rose to the occasion.

Their memes and jokes are the embodiment of these very principles with a rather sarcastic and holier than thou voice. They crack a joke at everything’s expense, and rarely have any limits and should always be taken with a pinch of salt. This is probably how they’ve earned 3.4 million fans on the social network.

There is but one goal purpose of Viral Thread’s website and Facebook page - to show it’s viewers the best of the internet. This includes memes, funny videos, shocking stories, and inspirational content.

8. College Humor

College Humor is the official Facebook page of CollegeHumor Media. The company itself was founded by two high school friends with the intention of delivering all sorts of comedic content to its audience.

And that’s how their Facebook page came about. They have approximately 8.5 millions fans on Facebook alone. The content there, ranges from curious facts, uncomfortable situations, roasts, and even life tips (with a humorous spin). They’re best known for the hilarious sketches they frequently create and share.

This list would be incomplete if we didn’t mention Sarcasm’s Facebook page. They boast a very strong fanbase with over 40 million fans on the platform. The page was originally created to simply entertain and share some laughs with users.

The LADbible Group, founded in 2012, is at the forefront of reporting engaging and entertaining content. They post everything from news to memes, real-life stories to original features that detail our culture and society.

Their Facebook page has roughly 32 million fans which makes them another major player in the meme space. They keep their audience entertained by sharing a plethora of fun posts, memes, their original works, and viral videos.

13. George Takei

I would be remiss if I failed to mention Mr. Sulu from the acclaimed Star Trek films and television series. George Takei, the beloved actor who portrayed the character is easily one of the funniest personalities on Facebook.

He’s a regular funny guy and avid meme maker. In addition to a generous helping off of memes and funny videos, George shares interesting articles from around the web.

14. Funny or Die

Funny or Die with its 15 million followers is another meme powerhouse on Facebook. In addition to user-generated content, they publish their own exclusively created memes too. Their site is a hub where celebrities and comedians like Zach Galifianakis share their comedic content.

The fact that Will Ferrell is one of their founding members should suffice as a humor certification for the site. Much like the site, the Facebook page is all about churning out a healthy mix of user-generated and self-generated memes.

15. Cyanide & Happiness

If dark humor is your thing, then there’s no better page than Cyanide & Happiness for you. It all started as a series of webcomics, back in 2004. The page is known for its controversial content as it takes a satirical approach to all things in life.

While their kind of humor doesn’t sit well with some people, the comics have close to 12 million followers on Facebook. You can look at their page for your daily dose of their comics as well as funny animated videos.

Meme marketing is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that can set the marketing landscape ablaze. And marketers are starting to see that. Brand sponsored ads elicit nothing more than an eye-roll from millennials. But with carefully crafted memes by experts like those above, you can create a strong buzz for your brand.

If you know of any other rip-roaringly funny meme pages on Facebook, let us know through your comments. We’d love to check them out.

The 50 Funniest Memes of All Time

If it wasn't for funny memes—you know: quips and images that exist solely for easy entertainment—Facebook wouldn't be entertaining enough to steal so much of your time. Instagram, too, would be little more than selfies and stylized pictures of food. And Twitter? Don't even get us started. In short, the internet would be a joyless void of constant news alerts, questionably reliable research, and self-aggrandizing social media posts without some of the internet's funniest memes.

Fortunately, that's a nightmare you don't have to imagine, thanks to the fact that funny memes are everywhere—and not going out of style anytime soon. Herein, we've gathered the funniest memes of all time. Don't worry: We've kept it all SFW. Because if there's one ironclad rule of the internet, it's this: Never hunt for memes on the bad part.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, lots of aspects of our lives went virtual. And that includes legal proceedings. The danger of conducting business over Zoom, as this lawyer discovered, is that it's far too easy to accidentally put a filter over your face that you don't know how to remove. The result? Pure comedy.

In typical fashion, Senator Bernie Sanders dressed practically for the January inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The internet instantly fell in love with his posture, his utilitarian coat, and especially his mittens, and the meme factory was in business once again. Even stars like Ryan Reynolds got in on the fun.

Call it an in-person meme. In April of 2021, people of all ages and backgrounds gathered in Lincoln, Nebraska to duke it out (safely), all because they have one thing in common: They're all named Josh. Per NPR, the idea for the Josh Fight came to organizer Josh Swain early in lockdown and blew up thanks to social media. The winner? A four-year-old Josh who was carried on the shoulders of his name brethren after it was all over.

Taking care of even minor tasks can give off the same vibes as Frodo finally completing his mission to destroy the One Ring in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as this relatable meme illustrates.

Why is it so easy to recall every detail of your most embarrassing moments compared to your proudest? Maybe our brains just have it out for us.

There was a period in 2020 where videos like the one above had all of us suspicious that the most un-cake-like objects might secretly be cake. What's even real anymore??

The Philadelphia Flyers endearingly chaotic mascot Gritty took his place in pop culture almost immediately after being unveiled by the organization. He's become a symbol not just of the hockey team but also of cheerful anarchy in all its forms. Here's to you, Gritty.

Like all great memes, this formal Bugs Bunny meme developed and changed over time. At first, it was used to wish all members of certain groups or demographics "a very pleasant evening," but now it can be used to say pretty much anything.

The Michael Jordan docuseries The Last Dance gave us this incredibly useful screenshot, which can be weaponized anytime something someone else does hits a little too close to home.

This jokester wolf can't make his gags work with his kids, but his peers love 'em. And is that not the definition of a dad joke?

Baby Yoda, the unofficial name for "The Child" from the Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian, was the biggest and cutest meme star of 2019. He's had a lot of gif-worthy moments, but this adorable image of him sipping soup takes the cake.

I'm late with this meme because I didn't have breakfast yet from r/memes

You don't need to know the anime series this screenshot was taken from to appreciate the meme. In the original iteration, the man (who's apparently an android in the show) mistakes a butterfly for a pigeon, so this format works for anyone who's ever tried to fit a square peg (coffee) into a round hole (a balanced breakfast).

Invest in Tom Hanks' Golden Globes face. from r/MemeEconomy

Speaking of memorable award show moments, Stranger Things star Winona Ryder went through a full face journey during costar David Harbour's acceptance speech at the SAG Awards. Her animated expressions inspired some talented internet artists.

"Woman yelling at cat eating food" from r/dankmemes

The woman in question is Bravo Housewife Taylor Armstrong, and no, she didn't really scream at an innocent cat. But internet magic was made when someone put this screenshot side-by-side with a pet named Smudge who does not enjoy a vegetarian diet.

From a confused cat to one who knows exactly what he's doing. Keyboard cat stunned the internet with his musical prowess and is permanently busting out some sweet tunes in our memories.

James Van Der Beek crying

Years after it first aired, a crying scene from the '90s teen drama Dawson's Creek became a vehicle for nostalgic feels and just generally overreacting to things. Even better, the man who gave us Crying Dawson, actor James Van DerBeek, is enough of a good sport about it that he fake-wept again to give us an updated version for our meme files.

This is fine, toilet paper edition. from r/CoronavirusMemes

Sometimes you have to ignore how bad things are getting just to get on with your day. That's the story of the "This Is Fine" dog, who's usually sitting in a burning room and sipping coffee (and originated in a comic strip called Gun Show). He's adaptable to many situations, including the strange circumstances of the pandemic, as seen above.

Crying Wesley Snipes from r/memes

It's so hard to say goodbye to those songs you used to love.

much improve. so amaze. wow from r/doge

If you love dogs, you'll love the one and only Doge. This shiba inu-inspired meme is all about celebrating the good boys and rare puppers in your life. It's no wnder he went viral—who could resist this face?

If the guy in this meme looks familiar, that's because it's professional basketball player Nick Young, most recently of the Denver Nuggets. Whenever someone says something too absurd for words, you can just send them this meme—they'll get the hint.

change my mind memes up and rising. from r/MemeEconomy

Political commentator Steven Crowder set down at a table with a sign challenging people to change his mind, and a fresh meme was born. If you have an unpopular opinion you love defending, this is the meme for you.

Drake did not hold back on the moves in the video for his song "Hotline Bling." And thus, he inadvertently created the perfect meme for expressing that you like one thing much better than another.

Cats will be cats from r/IfIFitsISits

The If It Fits, I Sits meme is great for anyone who likes to look at pictures of cats in vessels that can barely contain them—which is to say, it's great for everyone. Even the largest cats, as you can see, are subject to this rule.

Eat more fruits from r/classicalartmemes

Classical art memes prove that some human behaviors transcend the borders of time. Those venerated artists memorialized in museums across the world had a sense of humor too, as their meme-ready work shows.

Distracted Boyfriend, AKA Man Looking at Other Woman, is the result of a ridiculous stock photo that took the internet by storm. The meme is pretty self-explanatory: Whatever is distracting you—and shouldn't be—is "the other woman" in the photo.

Congratulations, you played yourself from r/funny

Sometimes the best way to make a meme is to come up with the most literal, obvious caption possible and then present it like you're brilliant. Case in point: This DJ Khaled meme, which will forever be a classic.

Fathers, can you relate to this? It's a condescending Wonka meme template meme. from r/OVER30REDDIT

ouch. from r/BikiniBottomTwitter

There are no memes on the internet with the same long-term appeal as SpongeBob memes. They are timeless and ageless, just like the guy who lives in a pineapple under the sea.

I made a shitty grumpy cat meme to pay respects from r/dankmemes

The world needs a Grumpy Cat to be our mascot every Monday, because Garfield doesn't hate Mondays quite enough for the modern worker.

Drunk Baby from r/memes

Actual Insanity Wolf offers extremely violent advice. But Baby Insanity Wolf does things so small that only the person who creates the meme has any idea it even happened.

Hmmmm?? from r/Philosoraptor

All jokes aside, Philosoraptor asks some pretty compelling questions. Maybe the dinosaurs would still be around if all of their big existential queries were answered.

This pic is handy any time you can think of a joke that demands a Wednesday punchline.

Me every night [Picture] (x-post from r/BlackpeopleTwitter) from r/teenagers

The Kardashians have spread themselves all over the internet, so it comes as no surprise that they are the source of many hilarious memes. This one, with Kim Kardashian staring blankly, is useful any time you're really not interested in something someone else wants you to say or do.

memes that are actually funny

2020 is still far from over but a lot of people think that it’s one of the worst years in recent modern history. So much so that they’re using humor to cope with just how bad things got. People are posting hilarious jokes about 2020 that a lot of us can relate to, and Bored Panda has collected some of the best ones.

Scroll down, upvote your fave 2020 jokes, and share how you’re dealing with all the stress this year, dear Pandas. When you’re done enjoying this list, have a look through our earlier post about people making “my plans vs. 2020” memes.

This year has been a huge challenge so far: Brexit shenanigans ensued, we nearly had WW3, Australia was on fire, the coronavirus pandemic shut down the world, and racial tensions over police brutality in the US reached a breaking point. It’s been rough. But people find that a bit of humor helps keep their spirits up in difficult times. Bored Panda reached out to speak about 2020 memes with comedy writer and comedian Ariane Sherine. Scroll down for our interview with her.

This post may include affiliate links.

Comedy writer Ariane told us that her fave jokes this year are "definitely" the "my plans vs. 2020" meme. "It just sums up the craziness of this year so perfectly."

She believes that people will still mention 2020 occasionally in the future. "2016 was also a bad year and people still talk about it. But it [2020] will ll slowly fade from memory and be mentioned less and less."

Ariane thinks that the bad news will continue in 2020. "Sadly, I expect we’ll see second waves of coronavirus deaths. I’d love to see a vaccine but I’m not sure that’s going to happen this year."

Some of the 2020 jokes are related to us thinking about how we and future generations will look back at this year. While other social media users are joking about how we’re still not even halfway through the year and there are probably lots of messed up things waiting for us in the near future. Like alien invasions and zombie plagues. Or something more serious but just as scary.

Staying positive in 2020 when negative things keep hitting us over and over (and over…) again is easier said than done. However, small changes that you make to your lifestyle can have huge effects.

Like taking some time off from social media and the news, brewing yourself a steaming mug of tea, and sitting down with a good book. We all need to recharge; following the news is important but doing it nonstop will lead to burnout and, eventually, apathy.

Getting plenty of movement, some sunshine, lots of rest, and having a good diet are also very important. The world’s always much grimmer when we’re exhausted.

On the other hand, when we’re full of energy, we have all the tools that we need to change the world into a better place. 2020 is far from over but is it going to be like the first half of the year or can we turn this year around? That’s for each and every one of us Pandas to decide.

To pay tribute to some of the most culturally important works of art in the history of humankind, are the funniest memes of all time.

And because facts are important on the Internet, we’ve also included where the memes originated, which should the information prove useful at your next What Do You Meme? party.

Funny Memes

The Funniest Memes on the Internet

1. American Chopper Argument

American Chopper was a reality TV show featuring Orange County Choppers, a custom motorcycle company in New York. Instead of us getting to watch custom paint drying on choppers, it highlighted the toxic relationship between Paul Teutel, Sr. and his son, Paul Teutel, Jr.

Tensions rose and gifted us with this particularly heated scene, which became the genesis of the meme and also our current exit interview strategy.

Funny Memes - American Chopper Argument

2. Woman and Cat Yelling

On the left is Taylor Armstrong from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2011, pointing and yelling at someone or some poorly arranged flower vase. On the right is a cat named Smudge, who is clearly offended that you said he “needed a salad.”

Armstrong isn’t really screaming at Smudge (because that fluffball could never do anything wrong), but the photo combo, which was originally created by @MISSINGEGIRL, became a meme minefield for opposing opinions. Those exist on the Internet?

Funny Memes - Woman Yelling at Cat

3. Scumbag Steve

We’ve all had one too many “Steves” in our lives. If you haven’t, please give us the number of the devil who bought your soul, because we have an offer to make.

The image itself actually first appeared on the cover of an album by a group called Beantown Mafia in which “Steve,” AKA Blake Boston, was a rapper. Even better, the original photo was taken by Blake’s mother.
Funny Memes - Scumbag Steve

4. Distracted Boyfriend

Perusing stock photo websites is our pastime, just behind watching Dr. Pimple Popper videos. Sure, we need better hobbies, but we’re not alone in this because the Distracted Boyfriend meme is the result of a stock photo that exploded the internet.

It makes for a pretty timeless meme since we’re always distracted by something. Oh look, another popping video!
Funny Memes - Distracted Boyfriend

5. Grumpy Cat

Grumpy Cat graced the Internet’s presence for the first time on Reddit in 2012 and went viral within hours. Unfortunately, Grumpy Cat (aka Tardar Sauce) died in 2019, but her spirit, frowny face, and place in the Meme Hall of Fame live on forever.
Funny Memes - Grumpy Cat

6. Crying Dawson

The CW teen drama Dawson’s Creek provided us with a lot of entertainment in the late 90s. And this close-up of Dawson’s (James Van Der Beek) face, has been used to sarcastically display remorse, sorroy, or pity. Seriously, just “cry us into a creek” already.

While the “True Love” episode aired on May 24, 2000, it was this four second YouTube video uploaded in 2006 that really set the meme in motion. Even better, Van Der Beek was such a good sport about it that he fake-wept for the entire internet in 2011.

7. Philosoraptor

The Philosoraptor meme features a velociraptor asking life’s most important questions. In 2008, the original illustration was released and copyrighted by artist Sam Smith as a t-shirt design. No, not that Sam Smith. Not that one either. Or that one….

It’s hard to know for sure who was the first person to place text over the design and turn into the meme monster it is today, but thank goodness they did or we might all still be full of existential dread even more than we are now.
Funny Memes - Philosoraptor

8. Success Kid

While many memes may be used to be condescending or to mimic people, Success Kid is generally super positive and helps celebrate all those wins in life.

The ironic thing is the original photo was not showing success, but rather frustration. Taken by photographer Laney Griner of her then 11-month-old son Sammy in 2007, the photo went viral after she posted it on her Flickr account. How do we explain this…it’s like an early version of Instagram?

It wasn’t until 2011 that one of the earliest Success Kid memes was uploaded to Reddit. And if that’s not enough for positivity, the sensation of the meme was used to generate enough donations for Sammy’s dad’s kidney transplant in 2015. Success, indeed!
Funny Memes - Success Kid

9. Condescending Willy Wonka

A screengrab of Gene Wilder from the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory turned a playful scene into a sarcastic, condescending meme series that befits the reclusive Wonka himself.
Funny Memes - Condescending Willy Wonka

10. Ermahgerd

The photo of 11-year-old Maggie Goldenberger that gave birth to this glorious meme shows off that gloriously awkward middle school age that kids these days seem to not be going through.

The photo began circulating the internet with the caption “Ermahgerd Gersberms,” which translates to “Oh my god, Goosebumps.” Ah, the simple highs of a Scholastic book fair. From there, it took off with nonsensical pronunciations of other items that only the Internet could understand.
Funny Memes - Ermahgerd

11. Futurama Squinting Fry

Feeling a little confused or skeptical? We give you this screengrab from Season 2, Episode 6 of Futurama, “The Lesser of Two Evils.” It offers the best facial expression for all those moments of I’m not quite sure, but something doesn’t feel right here. Also evidenced in all photos from our 30th birthday party.
Funny Memes - Futurama Squinting Fry

12. Evil Kermit

In this still from Muppets Most Wanted, Sith Kermit consults normal Kermit to visualize his inner monologue. Spoiler: It gets dark. Upside: You can use this Evil Kermit meme to fuel your pettiest desires.
Funny Memes - Evil Kermit

13. Roll Safe/ Guy Tapping Head

The meme of the guy tapping his head to imply using some flawed “critical thinking” skills came from BBC 3’s #HoodDocumentary series.

An oral sex quip was made by the character R.S. (aka Roll Safe) played by Kayod Equmi, and now the screengrab is used for arguably questionable life advice… also known as “advice from my sister.”
Funny Memes - Roll Safe/ Guy Tapping Head

14. Kim Kardashian in Bed

Ever laid in bed staring blankly while avoiding all responsibilities? Kim Kardashian has too! Celebrities – they’re just like us.
Funny Memes - Kim Kardashian in Bed

15. Disaster Girl

This meme didn’t come from a stock photo. Zoe Roth’s dad caught her looking a little too happy during their local fire department’s live drill training, posted it on the Internet, and memers took over.

Good news – Roth is now in her 20s and not an arsonist. In fact, she recently sold an original copy of the meme as an NFT for half a million dollars. She donated the money to charity and paid off her student loans.
Funny Memes - Disaster Girl

16. I Am Once Again Asking for Your Financial Support Bernie Meme

Only Bernie Sanders can create two viral memes in one year while wearing the same jacket. (His only jacket?) And he did it by keeping it real, as always, saying “I am once again asking for your financial support” in his December 2019 fundraising video.

Although that makes perfect contextual sense, people ran with it to create a meme that’s popular for any scenario in which you’re asking for something. But we’d still like the cash.

17. Surprised Pikachu

Feign surprise with Pikachu on your side using this meme that showcases a screenshot from the anime Pokémon. The episode the image originated from is Season 1, Episode 10 at exactly the 3:05 time mark.

But it was in late 2018 when the Internet started pairing surprised Pikachu with captions that showed surprise despite a predictable outcome. I choose you, sarcasm!
Funny Memes - Surprised Pikachu

18. All Right Then, Keep Your Secrets

Taken from the 2001 film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, this shot captures Frodo with a questionably happy facial expression. Did he have an extra special second breakfast?

If his look of bemusement wasn’t good enough, Frodo actually uttered the phrase, “All right then, keep your secrets,” making it so that memers only had to come up with half of the joke. It’s like they don’t even know what hard work is anymore.
Funny Memes - All Right Then Keep Your Secrets

19. Awkward Moment Seal

Life is awkward, but this little seal is here to help see you through it. Just don’t forget to bring him fish – he gets bitey.

Originally uploaded on Nature’s Pics Online, the first meme was uploaded to Reddit the next day.

20. Arthur’s Fist

Ever been so mad you can’t do anything but tense up and clench your fists? The Arthur’s Fist meme will help you explain your frustration. We know. Words are solid. Thanks for that, Thesaurus!

The screenshot is from Episode 1, Season 4 of the children’s TV show, Arthur. In this scene, Arthur is shown clenching his fist before punching his little sister, D.W. Wait, what?
Funny Memes - Arthur's Fist

21. Drakeposting

If you want a meme that expresses just how much you prefer something (cake) over something else (vegetables), then Drake has you covered with his “Hotline Bling” dance moves.

If you somehow managed to miss his 2015 music video, give it the old college watch so you can experience Drake dancing in empty, color changing rooms. Which explains our college years more than we’d like to admit.
Funny Memes - Drakeposting

22. This Is Fine Dog

The world is on fire meme that we may have overused in 2020 comes from a comic strip known as Gunshow

If you’re a pro at ignoring how bad things really are until they’re catastrophic, then this is the response meme for you. And you can join our club! We meet on Monday mornings. What a great time.

Funny Memes - This Is Fine Dog

23. Is This a…?

In the anime series The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird, the character mistakes a butterfly for a pigeon. Common mistake.

By swapping out the butterfly and the pigeon for literally anything or any concept, this meme works for plenty of occasions

— J Jennifer Espinoza (@sadqueer4life) May 1, 2018

24. Bad Joke Eel

The original image for this meme was taken by Jeffrey N. Jeffords while scuba diving in the Philippines. The moray eel made his first joke on Reddit in January 2012, and he’s been giving dads a run for their money ever since.
Funny Memes - Bad Joke Eel

25. The Most Interesting Man in the World

Borrowed from a Dos Equis marketing campaign, the most interesting man in the world is also suave and confident and apparently does whatever he wants. The photo is most commonly accompanied by a “I don’t always ____, but when I do, I ______.”
Funny Memes - The Most Interesting Man in the World

26. First World Problems

The next time you want to cry about your high speed WiFi being down, just know you could become a meme once the Internet comes back on.

The hashtag #FirstWorldProblems was started in 2009 as a way to trivialize things not worth complaining about. in 2011, the world mashed it together with this stock image of a crying woman and Silvia Bottini has been famous since.
Funny Memes - First World Problems

28. Daily Struggle

Unlike most of the other memes, the image and the meme originated together on this one.

In 2014, animator Jake Clark posted the original comic on his Tumblr which showed a visibly shaken character struggling to choose between “Be a dick” and “Don’t be a dick.” We still can’t figure out the right answer, which probably explains why we’re always so sweaty.

The Internet took that image and spawned various iterations from it, many of which swap the character’s head for another. Clark credited his inspiration from the Sweating Towel Guy illustration and Hank Nova from the video game Timesplitters 2.
Funny Memes - Daily Struggle

30. But That’s None of My Business

The Internet made Kermit a meme twice in 2014. Once as Evil Kermit, and this time, drinking iced tea and throwing major shade with the line “but that’s none of my business.”
Funny Memes - But That's None of My Business

31. Baby Yoda Sipping Soup

In 2019, a new green meme machine came into town. Not only did we get Baby Yoda-themed everything out of The Mandalorian, we also got the cutest meme star yet.

While he’s had plenty of adorable memes and GIF-worthy moments, this still from Episode 4, Season 1, just about takes the cake. Or soup if you’re “The Child.”

The image has been paired with text relating to anything coy, and even his cup has been swapped out. We doubt Baby Yoda needs more chicken tendies from McDonald’s…but that’s none of our business.
Funny Memes - Baby Yoda Sipping Soup

32. Pablo Escobar Waiting

It can be a sad and lonely place in the world, especially when all of your friends have left your Animal Crossing island. But fear not – drug lords can feel the same way

In October 2016, shortly after the release of Narcos Season 2, this three-image collage of Pablo Escobar (played by Wagner Moura) was born. Whether depicting the feeling of waiting for your 12th Amazon package of the week or when all two of your friends are busy, this meme hits home. You DEA guys want any munchies?
Funny Memes - Pablo Escobar Waiting

33. Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man

This meme, which started taking off in the mid 2010’s on Black Twitter and went viral thanks to FreddyAmazin’s Twitter post and this Reddit post, features an image from a 1960’s episode of the Spider-Man cartoon where two people in Spider-Man costumes are pointing at each other.

Just place a mirror in front of us and it’s basically us. We’re just gonna need help getting this suit off okay? Where are you all going?
Funny Memes - Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man

34. Pepe Silvia

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia struck gold again! Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the line down to it.

In Season 4 Episode 10 Charlie goes on a conspiratorial rant about how he believes a person named “Pepe Silvia” does not exist, despite having “boxes full of Pepe.” His dedication to finding the truth may look psychotic to some, but we don’t know how else we’d be able to convey our own crazy theories without it. Don’t eat the popcorn. Just trust us.
Funny Memes - Pepe Silvia

35. Overly Attached Girlfriend

This meme originated from a 2012 video by vlogger Laina Morris and is used to portray things a very clingy girlfriend might say. This makes total sense when you learn that the video was a parody rendition of Justin Beiber’s “Boyfriend” that has some pretty stalker-like lyrics.

From the blank stare in the beginning to the verses that honestly kinda slap, it’s not exactly a surprise that it made it to Reddit the very next day à la meme style. Don’t worry, Laina is a good sport about it. With 20 million video views, we wouldn’t be mad either.
Funny Memes - Overly Attached Girlfriend

36. Religion Pigeon

In case you’re the type to pick up on religious contradictions, the Religion Pigeon meme is for you. If you think pigeons are really drones placed by the government, may we direct you to the Pepe Silvia meme above.

The original pigeon photo came from the photo blog AndysLens and the first meme was created in 2010, and atheists have never been more united.
Funny Memes - Religion Pigeon

37. Evil Cows

The first known use of the Evil Cows as a meme was in 2012, thanks to Redditor Drunkmonkey 35. But, the first known use of the image (without text) was in 2002. It was posted in reply to a news story about an employee who was fired for refusing to pray to Jesus, which is a better origin story than we ever could have hoped for.
Funny Memes - Evil Cows

38. Pun Dog

This baby just loves his stuffed animal so much that it seems like he’s telling you a really good punch line. And then you get punched with a pun. Considering this pup is a world-class fighter, you lucked out!

The original images were uploaded to Reddit in 2012 with the first meme in 2013. Cheers could be heard from Dad’s around the world.
Funny Memes - Pun Dog

39. Skeletor

The primary antagonist in the Masters of the Universe, Skeletor is a stereotypical villain…over-the-top, tends to monologue, has great style.

There are a number of different types of memes originating from this villain and they’re all far too relatable. But we shouldn’t be surprised that we resonate so well with a character that’s dead inside.
Funny Memes - Skeletor

40. Hide The Pain Harold

Another stock photo gone right is the Hide the Pain Harold. Harold constantly looks like he’s in despair but always tries to put on a happy face. If “happy” is synonymous with “seriously unsure.”

The real Harold, András Arató, is a good sport when it comes to his meme fame, and made the most out of it in this TED Talk.
Funny Memes - Hide The Pain Harold

41. Crying Michael Jordan

There may not be crying in baseball, but there is in basketball. At least when you’re Michael Jordan and it’s your Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech.
Funny Memes - Crying Michael Jordan

42. Math Lady / Confused Lady

This meme was pulled from a scene in the telenova Senhora do Destino and features Brazilian actress Renata Sorrah trying to do some serious mental math.

It’s the perfect reaction meme to use anytime you’re confused, like when you were convinced that Sigoruney Weaver was in Ghostbusters. We’ve used it 10 times today already.

There truly is no better way to gauge how twisted our 2020 brains are than to look at the memes we've used to define our year. In time, I like to imagine that historians will stumble across the digital archaeology field called the internet and find the images, gifs, and inside jokes that we used to communicate and deduce something about the batshit mental state we were all in while (1) time seemed to become a loose concept, (2) a pandemic ravaged the world, and (3) an autocrat flubbed an election and fell ultimately out of power.

That description makes the year sound bleak, and make no mistake, it was. But in these post-ironic times, the way we find solace and humor in the madness is to hit the World Wide Web, take a piece of pop culture, and turn it into a new hieroglyphic of internet language. Among this year's slate of greatest hits? A resurgence of Glee memes, the existential dread of pandemic life, and one very stoned dude who made us remember how much we love Fleetwood Mac.

From serious news stories to frivolous celebrity drama, memes have given our daily assault of reality some much-needed moments of levity. They also have gotten really freaking weird this year. Be it politics, Taylor Swift, or cake, the memes of 2020 have been a comfort in dark times. Long live the meme. May they forever reign.

An Environment So Toxic

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

What does it say about us that two late entries into the meme category are Glee based? Are we just tired? Do we long for years passed? No matter, the Jane Lynch line, "I'm going to create an environment so toxic" has morphed throughout the year. Now it's nothing short of the internet's erasure poem. Take the photo and replace what you will. Black the rest out. It's a lesson to memes across the board: you will only exist long enough to be torn apart.

Unchecked Hatred for Matthew Morrison

Man, you do several cringey covers of hip-hop adjacent songs on a Ryan Murphy TV show and the world will not let you forget about it. The unchecked, unwarranted hatred for Matthew Morrison has always been pulsing lightly among the online community, but in 2020, the (seemingly?) sarcastic hatred reached an apex. Mr. Schuester is a cop, a creep, a lonely soul. He's so many things, but none of them—NONE—is a hero.

Mike Pence and the Fly

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The 2020 election season has been unbearably long and painfully vile, but amid the mess, one small fly gave us respite. In the middle of the Vice Presidential debate, a fly landed on the Malfoy-white head of Vice President Mike Pence. Viewers waited with bated breath to see if he’d ever notice it, considering that it took residency up on his noggin for quite some time. By the time it flew away, the internet had deemed it a hero and turned it into a meme.

How It Started / How It’s Going

Again, it’s the perfect example of the internet and existentialism colliding. Like many-a-meme from 2020, this one is all about the emotional toll that the year has taken. How it started / how it’s going is a tip of the hat to these chaotic times, though the meme isn’t all bad. The most brazen move of the year is using the meme to tell a story of success instead of despair. Keep up the good fight.

Da Vinky?

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Deep breath. Culture can be difficult. The “Da Vinky?” meme is proof of that. When TikTok brothers Chris and Patrick Voros used the trivia filter on Instagram and had the question “Who painted the Mona Lisa?” pop up, not only did they not know the answer, but they were pretty stunned by the name that popped up afterward. Thus, Da Vinky was born, nestled into all types of meme formats.

Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

It’s the chillest meme of the year. Grab that cran-razz. Turn on some “Dreams.” To quote Kacey Musgraves, “Roll up a joint. Or don’t.” It’s all you need for the best vibes possible in 2020. After a TikTok user uploaded the feel-good moment and subsequently went viral, the meme has been recreated by Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, and the Ocean Spray CEO, but none of their mimicking hits as authentically as the original.

“Does This Look Like an Appropriate Father/Son Relationship To You?”

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

When a Republican leader tried to make a statement by posting a picture of Joe Biden hugging Hunter Biden with a smooch on the cheek along with the question “Does This Look Like an Appropriate Father/Son Relationship To You?” the internet took the question to task. In one of the purest meme origin stories, sometimes a great meme is just embedded in someone else trying to be an asshole.

Hannah Montana Leaves

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

This one emerged some time earlier in 2020—a repurposed Hannah Montana clip that seemed like it was going to have a big boom-bust moment in the Spring. The meme has hung around though, and its versatility allows for any number of uses. Oftentimes, the darker the better (i.e. goodbye rights!).

Heavy sigh. You know what? Why not? In 2020, the online phenomenon of "bardcore" came to existence. What is bardcore? Just the mainstream embrace of medieval covers of popular songs. Like, if you had ever considered what Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" might sound like in the year 1220, this is your moment. Grab your lute, fam. We're starting a band.

This is Where I'm At

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

By the time we've hit September, we're just looking for some new way to communicate that, Hey, we're in a tough spot right now. That's where the "This is Where I'm At" meme comes in. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. A video, presumably, is worth a million. So why try and vocalize the very strange place you're in when a photo of a deer head, a mechanical body, and prosthetic legs can do it for you?

How the Email Found Me

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Fire whomever came up with the phrase "I hope this email finds you well." I don't care what their job is. Fire them because when has an email—and I cannot stress this enough—ever found you well? Emails are the worst, and in this hellscape of a year, no email is finding me well. Do you think I'm sitting at my computer, joyously feasting on a salad and laughing for no reason? No, Debra. I'm not great. This meme was created to encapsulate that vibe. Let us all retire the sentiment.

The Real Villain

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The rare 2020 meme that isn't about total existential dread. Refreshing! This meme format is for the hindsight lovers out there. Voldemort? Maybe not as bad as we thought? Thanos? Perhaps there was another villain. Nate from The Devil Wears Prada? Human garbage. Sorry, it's canon.

The 2020 Challenge, AKA, Reese Witherspoon Challenge

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

It's unclear who exactly started this challenge, but what became known as the "Reese Witherspoon" challenge is simply charting out your emotional journey over the past 8-9 months. A common through line is that after, say, May... it just doesn't get any better.

What is Cake?

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Now this—this is existential dread, personified. One BuzzFeed video launched a whole craze of cake madness: what hyper realistic things around us are actually cake? Are we cake? The meme is strangely dark and a bit heady, but at least there's icing on the outside.

Which _______ Are You?

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Another weird meme that took off on Instagram is the "Which _______ are you?" meme, which ran the gamut from which cow you might be to which Moira Rose. They're niche and weird and, unsurprisingly, largely crafted by a bevy of Gen Z teens who then used a big portion of the profits to donate to charity. You love a success story.

Boys Thrusting to Taylor Swift

This content is imported from TikTok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

As TikTok looks into the face of its potential dissolution, memes are still emerging on the platform every day. In Summer 2020, the one that bubbled up above the rest is the Taylor Swift "Love Story" challenge, where boys—typically of the teenage persuasion—set up their camera on a skateboard or something that rolls, wait for the beat to drop as the camera moves away, and then thrust like their lives depend on it when the chorus hits. Youth is magical.

The Ana de Armas Fan Account That Ana de Armas Blocked

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

To be fair, @ArmasUpdates is less of a meme and more of an exemplary study in internet humor. The account, which posts photos of Ana de Armas and then captions them with fictional happenings, is an internet sensation. It has also been blocked by the actress, who seems to not think the joke is as funny as everyone else.

Nature is Healing

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

In late Spring, amid all the terrible news coming from Europe regarding COVID-19, one good thing seemed to be happening. Water quality hadn't been so good in Italy in decades. The internet then took good news and turned it into a meme. See something outside of the norm? "Nature is healing. We are the virus."

Andrew Cuomo's Briefing Slides

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

While Governor Andrew Cuomo is far from perfect when it comes to governing New York and/or handling the coronavirus outbreak, his regular COVID-19 press briefings have offered a twisted, humorous goldmine for memes. And in a year where no one really knows what day it is (see below), his often simplified slides sure offer a bit of levity.

My Plans // 2020

Well. We tried it. This year has come along and derailed just about everything good we had going for us.

From quarantine to everything else that happened in the Before Times, this year has decidedly not been the refresh we were hoping it would be. At least there's a good meme to follow. The format: what you thought your year was going to be in a photo, followed by how it turned out. Take this one: Mmmm whatcha say?

X Æ A-12, now better known as X Æ A-xii

Leave it to Elon Musk and Grimes to make an easy task impossibly difficult. When their baby was born this Spring, they unveiled that their child's name was something akin to what happens when your cat walks across your keyboard. The full explanation, which you can explore on your own time, is prime Elon x Grimes content, but the internet when wild with the memes, prodding at the couple's bizarre naming technique.

Dear Men, What is Preventing You...

We love a tone deaf tweet that gets co-opted into something grander. After one Twitter user posted a picture of a man with abs and asked the question, "Dear men, what is preventing you from looking like this?" the internet had a field day with their own variations on what men are supposed to look like.

What Day Is It?

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

With the COVD-19 virus trapping the world at home, it’s scientifically proven that we’ve all lost grasp on exactly how time works. What day is it? Does it matter? While the virus itself is no laughing matter, it is pretty funny to take a step back and find ways to joke about how incredibly topsy turvy we’re all feeling about time. This particular take sparks quite a bit of joy. For reference, let’s just say that the day of the week is “Spring” for now.

Wash Your Lyrics

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

As the COVID-19 virus spread, a revamped mandate to wash your hands came about. But washing your hands doesn’t mean briefly running them under a faucet and then simply showing them a bottle of soap. No, it’s 20 seconds of thorough scrubbing. Because we’re all children at heart, one website made it possible to chart the process out with the lyrics to your favorite song. Let the internet take control, and then you end up with a chart about washing your hands to Sylvia Plath poetry.

Gossip Girl Meme

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The internet loves to drudge up an old show and make a new meme. In this one, the objective is simple. You have a Blake Lively up top. A Leighton Meester on the bottom. You pose a question with Blake, and with Leighton, you use those crude Photoshop skills that kept you from succeeding in graphic design school, and you rearrange the letters to spell something ridiculous. Boom, a meme is born.

No One Has the Range

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Sure, Joaquin Phoenix is an award-winning actor best known for playing unhinged characters, but could he high-kick his way through the “Dancing Queen” choreography in Mamma Mia? You bet your bottom dollar he couldn’t--but Christine Baranski could. This meme celebrates the range of actors and actresses who’ve made a career out of playing diverse characters, from the serious to the zany. Go ahead and try your hand at creating a “no one has the range” meme of your own while in quarantine--we bet you’re watching enough TV and movies to identify some good candidates.

TikTok Point to Text

This content is imported from TikTok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

What started as an innocent meme—where TikTok users would point at superimposed text to the wholesome tune of the Yoshi’s Island “Map Theme”—took a dark turn when medical Twitter (yes, that’s a thing) got involved. A user by the name of Nurse Holly, who has over 1.7 million followers, came under fire when she used the format to claim that abstinence is the best method of STD prevention. Holly deleted the video due to backlash, but not before other medical professionals piled on to set the record straight. Fact-checking—you love to see it.

Bernie “I Am Once Again Asking for Your…”

If there’s any positivity to be found in what’s promising to be a nightmarish 2020 Election, it’s in the memes. Yes, our democracy might be in shambles, but at least we can share stupid images on the Internet right? This one is simply a still from a Bernie Sanders fundraising video. Simply insert what you’re asking for.

I’ve Tried, But I Can’t

Little Women didn’t win Best Picture at the Oscars, but who needs that when we have some very prestigious memes? Saoirse Ronan’s impassioned speech to Timothee Chalamet is the perfect antidote for any vibe you’re feeling when you’re just utterly defeated. Assign it to an impossible to-do list. An exhaustive reading list. Tracy Turnblad trying to stop the beat. You get the gist.

Billie Eilish Oscars

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Poor Billie. Seemingly unaware of anything that happened in pop culture before the year 2000, the Oscars and all the Olds threw the young woman for a loop. When Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph went into a musical medley, she seemed fully confused by all of their references. And don’t get us started on the face she made when Eminem performed “Lose Yourself.” In her defense, that performance has been 17 years in the making.

Nancy Pelosi Rips Up a Speech

If Speaker Pelosi seemed chill throughout Trump’s third State of the Union, you didn’t stick around until the final moments. With a few seconds of airtime left, the Speaker of the House ripped up Trump’s speech as she stood behind him. Thus, a meme and a 2020 mood was born.

If you’ve ever been curious which Harry Potter character you are or which Disney Prince you are most like or any other general question, chances are there’s an Instagram filter that will reveal it to you. Based on no science or discernible decision making criteria, the filters took off in 2020, continuing the tradition of Instagram being the lazy man’s TikTok.

This is art. A captured exchange between former spouses Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston launched all kinds of memes and debate about the couple. Meeting backstage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the quick photo is likely just a strange shot as Aniston passed Pitt, but man if it didn't light the internet on fire.

Marriage Story has had such an interesting trajectory. First it was beautiful. Then it was a bit overwrought, and then everyone realized just how much potential there was in using some of its most dramatic moments as a meme. Though there are other variations on this beautiful moment, how long has it been since you had "Chop Suey" stuck in your head? Welcome home, System of a Down fans.

When one judge said he couldn't see Kloss wearing the design in Paris, and she agreed, Neasloney said, "Not even to dinner with the Kushners?" and a meme was born.

The best part of the "canceling plans" meme is that it starts out as self-care. Then it absolutely spirals into hyperbole, meaning that if you need a bit of space to relieve yourself from the anxieties of the world, you can do so by going as much in the opposite chaotic direction as possible. Stress, meet stress.

Did Dolly Parton technically create this meme? We think not. But she did breathe life into it again, and when Dolly touches something, it turns to gold. Every timeline—Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook—was flooded with the #DollyPartonChallenge. And in case you're wondering, no one pulled it off better than the originator herself.
