Description:
Seeking an R&D chemist that can work as part of a team. The primary job duties will be researching new markets, developing new products, improving processes, and more.

Qualifications:
2 or 4 year degree required
Must be able to use basic math skills
Must be punctual
Must be creative
Must have good problem-solving abilities
Must have great attention to detail
Must be able to stand for large portions of shift
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must be able to work as part of a team
Must have basic computer skills
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and be willing to learn new programs SAP knowledge is desirable
Must be willing to wear required PPE

Work Conditions:
Essentially all work will take place in a laboratory with associated risks expected in an industrial laboratory. Conditions include but are not limited to chemical odors, fragile glassware, equipment with moving parts, and hot surfaces.

Most work is to be done at a lab bench

Computer work is required

  • Proven ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments in an independent manner.

Development Chemist- Solvent based


Required Profile


Development Chemist

- Responsible for the development of new products and optimisation of current products, with a focus on quality and costs.

- Product base mainly solvent based adhesives and coatings but product range will also include some water based products

- Technical responsibility for solvented products manufactured at both the Stafford site in the UK and Avelin in France

- This position will involve some travel to France when travel restrictions due to Covid-19 have been lifted


Key Responsibilities

* .Maintaining current solvent based range and developing new products where required

* Taking projects from development to production scale.

* Support to the sales team by providing technical information on current as well as newly developed products.

* Support to the manufacturing department (solving problems in manufacturing, improving process and support during new product introduction).

* Investigating customer complaints

* Carrying out standard tests for viscosity and adhesion (shear, peel etc) and evaluate the results obtained against customer specifications.

* Write concise accurate reports on work carried out

* Modifying reports to remove confidential information in order for it to be shared with other Bostik departments and external customers

Requirements

* Educated to degree level or equivalent in chemistry, polymer engineering or materials.
* Industry experience in the development of solvented adhesives would be an advantage
* Be able to work unsupervised and complete projects to an agreed timescale.
* A practical and thorough approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.
* With good team skills.
* Comfortable working to tight deadlines
* Commercial acumen
* Good IT literacy skills
* Clean current driving licence
